Thursday, 4th September, 2003 ... very early in the morning at
Greenwich park, London, about 200 men and women of varying ages,
shapes and sizes had donned their leery Lycra and gaily coloured
spandex outfits and were setting off for Paris. On their bicycles
!!
This event was the eighth annual "Pedal to Paris" Charity
ride for the Royal British Legion which took the intrepid cyclists
through the Kent countryside to Dover, and then by ferry to Calais.
The following 3 days and 300 miles were nothing more than hard work,
fuelled only by the sight of the opposite sex clad in Lycra, good
company, good scenery, good food and free wine. And the odd distractions
en-route.
Americatessen's Managing Director Damian Curzon-Price was once again
proving his insanity by completing this ride for the 8th consecutive
year, but this time on his very rare,
|
and very heavy Harley-Davidson Veloglide bicycle.
Dismounting, once he had finally arrived at the Arc de Triomph,
he bore a massive
sense of achievement and gave a huge sigh of relief. "It's amazing
how many friends you make if you happen to own a tube of vaseline
!" he stated.
Over these 8 rides Mr Curzon Price has raised something close to £10,000
for the Royal British Legion but this is all due to the generosity
and support of many of Americatessen's customers and suppliers
to whom he is eternally grateful.
But it doesn't stop there. Apparently he has just signed up to do
his 9th ride this september ... this is not the last you will see
of Mr Curzon Price!
"I'll be back", he was reported to have
been heard mumbling as he slowly drifted off for further applications
of the soothing
jelly!
